Rising energy costs are a significant issue not only in the commercial sector but also for most manufacturing companies in Germany and across Europe. Over the past 20 years, electricity prices and their various components have seen a dramatic increase, often with considerable fluctuations.
For businesses with high energy demands, this represents a substantial cost factor that cannot always be fully passed on to customers through pricing. This, in turn, creates a notable competitive disadvantage Comparex to international competitors.
To sustainably reduce operating costs and CO2 - emissions, we have installed a total of 363 kWp of solar power capacity over the past eight years (as of August 2024). Solar panels now cover the entire roof area of both our production plant and office building. Approximately 50-60% of the electricity generated is consumed on-site, with the remainder fed into the regional grid as green electricity.
The solar modules generate around 350,000 kWh of clean energy annually, covering roughly 75% of our yearly electricity needs. This reduces our carbon footprint by approximately 134 tonnes of CO2 - each year! Due to the high share of self-consumed electricity, the solar installation has proven to be an excellent long-term investment.
Additionally, any electricity we must purchase is sourced as green energy from the local utility. This ensures that 100% of our energy consumption is derived from renewable sources. This is our contribution to combating climate change!
With the solar systems installed by 2024, generating approximately 363 kWp, we will have produced around 1,500 MWh of electricity. This equates to a CO2 - reduction of approximately 700 tonnes,
comparable to the annual energy consumption of 400 four-person households.
These investments position us well for the future, particularly as electricity costs continue to rise. In addition, we have prepared for the future by building an efficient electrical infrastructure, including charging stations for alternative energy vehicles.
